Masteel offers a variety of cost-effective 5-axis machining technology ideally suited for job shops to obtain shorter overall cycle times on smaller batch multi-face machining production through substantial reduction of programming, set-up and machining time.
The advantages of 5-axis over 3-axis multi-surface and/or contoured surface machining:
reduced machining time by using a flat bottom end mill and maintaining perpendicularity to the complex surface as you can step-over with the full cutter diameter - thereby substantially reducing the required number of passes across the full surface (which also applies to side milling angled surfaces)
better surface finish by using a flat bottom end mill to maintain perpendicularity to the complex surface which can also eliminate ribbing caused by ball nose end mills
faster cycle times and better surface finish through the use of shorter cutting tools + holders in deeper pockets for higher rigidity + accuracy
eliminate multiple set-ups required to reposition the work piece for multiple and complex angled surfaces (and eliminate multiple set-up errors)
eliminate costly tooling and fixtures required to hold the work piece
eliminate manual mill work and hand work required to clean up and polish rough surfaces
machine complex part geometries that are also possible - including holes required to be normal to a complex surface
furtherpreparation time reduction by the use of Fagor controls on most of the following machines with very simple yet powerful programming and set-up features
5-face machining on lower cost 5-face machining centresfurther reduces the capital equipment cost if full 5-axis is not required
